What a gift to know that our leader orders his life by the church’s clock, realizes the church’s challenges, joys and activties and preaches the Gospel to us at every opportunity. Yes, Pastor Harrison this crazy world is enough to bring us to tears but my tears are tears of joy for your partnership in the Gospel and your faithful seelsorging to our little synod. God give you and your staff His grace, mercy and strength to carry out His work on behalf of the LCMS.

I have never been so delighted by messages from the LCMS President’s Office. “There is a Balm in Gilead”

May the God of all grace continue to give you an abundance Jesus’ Spirit.

Your “Christ Have Mercy” is prominently displayed on the “New Books Shelf” in our Public Library. I suspect my wife’s persistence in her vocation as a Tech in the Library.

Thank the Lord for finding such a useful tool as our new president. May their relationship continue to grow, and may we be blessed by it, even as we each in turn radiates that love into the world in which we live.
    Soli Deo Gloria!

Every Sunday, I lead our congregation in prayer for our LCMS, our President, our District President, our Circuit Counselor, and our congregation’s leadership. I will share this message with these same disciples so that they can put a face and a message with the name. Please, President Harrison, keep speaking to God’s people through these helpful videos!

    President (Pastor) Harrison,
It is so encouraging to me to see you face and hear your voice of encouragement! Thank you so much for these messages, and may God bless you with His comfort, strength, and courage to lead this His church in the 21st century. Thank you for keeping us grounded in Christ!

Thank you, President Harrison, for these simple, yet edifying greetings that you provide us, keeping our attention to the seasons of the blessed Church, which in turn keep us focused on Christ … for us! May I be so bold as to inquire about where I may find the quotes from Luther you mentioned?

Sons (and Daughters) of Nones

about 2 months ago - Comments Off

“Who were the three people who never had parents?” Answer: “Adam and Eve,” of course, and then also “Joshua, the son of Nun” (Josh. 1:1). The riddle came to mind with all the talk these about “Nones,” the 30 percent of our population today who, when asked for their religious affiliation, answer “none.” A goodly…

FOEs

My contributions to this WMLT blog are often less than inspiring. While they address matters of our “life together,” in the minds of some they might better be called “blahgs,” for they usually have to do with life together according to bylaws. But life together according to our Synod’s Bylaws is important, for this is…

Some Basic Questions on Witness, Mercy, Life Together

about 10 months ago - Comments Off

Some years ago I was working with a small congregation in a small town during a vacancy in the pastoral office. The congregation, never large, had been declining in recent years. The previous pastor had left for a more attractive position in another state. When I asked them why they had no Sunday School, they…

On Improving Your Pastor (written for church members)

about 10 months ago - 2 comments

So you want to improve your pastor? He’s not done anything wrong for which he can be removed from office in your parish, but you think he could do better, be a better pastor. More than that, you also know just what he needs to do to improve! Should you tell him? How do you…

Religious Liberties and Prohibition

Recently I have spent time skimming through some of the historical convention proceedings of our Synod. I found an interesting report in the 1917 Convention Proceedings that is very similar to current events. Back in 1917, President Pfotenhauer established a committee to look into the impact of recent federal legislation that made it impossible for…

There Is Only One Life

about 1 year ago - Comments Off

What do you think of that statement?  There is only one life.  In some ways it sounds wrong.  Is this all there is?  Is our present life on this earth the only life we get?  Many naturalists and secularists would agree.  Our natural, physical life here and now is all we know.  You are born,…

Lent: An Evangelism Opportunity

about 1 year ago - Comments Off

Have you ever realized what a great evangelism opportunity Lent is?  Here you have six special Wednesday evening services (many congregations even serve dinner), each service focused on some aspect of our Lord’s Passion. In many of our churches the passion history is even read as part of these services (if not, why not ask…

Pearl Harbor

about 1 year ago - 1 comment

We remember on this day, 70 years ago, when the Japanese attacked the United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941, the country was devastated by the surprise attack by the Japanese, the loss of 1,177 crewmen of the USS Arizona Battleship, and the many more who were injured. A year…

Life Together and the Koinonia Project

about 1 year ago - 3 comments

You already know that Witness, Mercy, and Life Together describe what we, as the Body of Christ, do for the sake of the world.  Each of the three depends on the other two.  If our witness is separated from works of mercy, both are truncated.  When we live together in the fellowship of the Gospel,…
